Lake Murray is the largest man-made lake in the southeastern United States. It is located near Columbia, South Carolina, sports approximately 50,000 acres in size, and has roughly 500 miles of shoreline. It was impounded in the late 1920s to provide hydroelectric power to the state of South Carolina. The lake has become a recreational attraction with public swimming areas, fishing, and boating being popular activities. With dozens of Lake Murray marinas, boat landings, and ramps, it is easy to find a place to put your boat in the water. Not only is Lake Murray a skiing, boating, and swimming paradise, it also has some of the best fishing in the nation and is host to numerous local, state and national fishing tournaments held each year. Lake Murray is also the home of some of the most majestic wildlife in South Carolina.
