Capital City/Lake Murray Country Named Top Southern Destination
Forbes releases an annual list of the Top Southern Destinations based on factors like livability and tourism. And the Lake Murray Country in South Caroline made Forbes’ list of the 2021 Top Southern Destinations alongside other places like Highlands, NC, and Lake Nona, FL.
According to Forbes, the Lake Murray Country is deserving of a spot on the list because it has a unique combination of historic charm and modern accompaniments. Visitors can take part in walking tours of the city, view the area’s antebellum homes, or visit one of the city’s many museums. At the same time, there are plenty of modern businesses, restaurants, and retail opportunities in the area for visitors and residents alike.
Miriam Atria, CEO and president of Capital City Lake Murray Country, said in a news release, “This is wonderful publicity for our region, and it’s a great time for our region to stand out from the rest.”
In 2020, this area made Leisure Group Travel’s list of seven regions in the country where virtual tourism was thriving during the COVID-19 pandemic. The website noted a virtual learning program being offered by the Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens, which offered behind-the-scenes looks and live interactions with zoo inhabitants and staff.
