Chapin/Irmo

Chapin, popularly known as the Capital of Lake Murray, is a small, affluent, lake town located at the northern tip of Lexington County. Chapin is known for its charm and southern hospitality and is consistently rated in the Top 10 places to live in South Carolina. Lake Murray is the main attraction to Chapin and provides recreational boaters with water-related entertainment. Today the lake has recreational swimming, boating, skiing, fishing, and wakeboarding. Irmo is a town in Lexington and Richland counties and a suburb of Columbia. It is part of the Columbia Metropolitan Area and is located 12 miles northwest of the Columbia city center. Irmo is a small southern town with just under 13,000 residents and one of the most sought-after places to live. Irmo is home to the annual Okra Strut festival and parade. The heart of downtown Irmo is the town park which features walking paths, a gazebo, and an amphitheater for summer concerts. Located just outside the city along the banks of the Saluda River, Saluda Shoals Park provides visitors with an abundance of recreational opportunities, including some of the state’s best kayaking. This 400-acre regional park boasts picnic shelters, boat ramps, and trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
